(CONtra)TEMPORARY MUSEUM

24 August – 12 September 2026. Urban Zone of Unconventional Culture. 14 Marin Brutaru St., Ploiești – UZUC Factory.

What happens to a factory when production stops, but the place carries on existing?

Urban Zone of Unconventional Culture starts from this question and temporarily turns the former factory in Ploiești into a space for artistic production. Not a museum in the classical sense, but a (CONtra)TEMPORARY Museum — a museum that does not begin with finished works, but with the process through which they come into being.

Urban Zone of Unconventional Culture - UZUC becomes a temporary museum, a factory in transformation, an artistic building site open to the public.

Urban Zone of Unconventional Culture — UZUC becomes a meeting point between different practices, generations and perspectives. Romanian and international artists work in the same space, in a context that pushes them to look beyond their own methods and to answer to a place with a powerful memory. The interventions are site-specific, but they are not isolated: they are built through the relationship between artist, space and community.

For Ploiești, Urban Zone of Unconventional Culture means reclaiming an infrastructure that belongs to the memory of the city and turning it into a space for contemporary culture activated as a place of the present.

The public can follow the transformation of the factory from one visit to the next, meet the artists at work, ask questions and watch decisions that would stay hidden in a conventional exhibition. Hesitation, experiment, accident and conversation become part of the artistic experience.

And what remains after the artists leave — the interventions, the traces of the process, the documentation and the memory of the experience — keeps changing the way we look at this place.

CONTINUOUS STUDIO 11REPUBLICA ARTELORGORZO resting on a leather sofa in the yard of the UZUC factory

For one month, GORZO moves his studio to UZUC - (CONtra) TEMPORARY Museum. Continuous Studio is part of artist Dumitru Gorzo's migrating project, started in 2019 in New York. A temporary studio that moves from one place to another and turns, each time, into a living space for work, meeting and dialogue.

The 11th place it reaches is Ploiești, where it will stay all through September with Continuous Studio 11 - Republica Artelor.

You can meet GORZO while he works in one of the factory halls. You can step in, watch, ask questions and talk to him. You can follow how a work appears and changes. You can be part of this open and yet intimate space, a symbiosis between artist and reaction, between art and the semiotics of the place.

Dumitru Gorzo is one of the most active contemporary visual artists in Romania. Co-founder of the Rostopasca group, his practice moves across painting, sculpture, drawing, installation and intervention in public space.
